Introduction to Filet Crochet
Introduction to Filet Crochet

Filet crochet has fundamental similarities to each other which makes filming a tutorial for each design redundant. Introducing Filet Crochet.

Basic Foundation

The best way is to follow the graphs provided with these designs with the graphs on your laps. Once you understand the graphs, you can follow them. Here are some tips:

  1. Identify on the graph which side is right side and what is wrong side.
  2. Understand the repeating section of the graph if the design is repeating across.
  3. Skim the pattern to find what each box means on the graph. Filet is not the same stitch counts per box but can vary from 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. The designer should tell you that in their design.
  4. Mark your first row indicating the RS (right side) so you can identify where you are in the pattern so you don't pick up the project another time and start guessing to throw your pattern out of alignment.
  5. If the graph is not coloured in, colour in the graph with your pencil crayons to make it easier to follow.

love following your videos. I do have one problem. I am left-handed and trying to follow a right-handed graph can be very confusing and if you are new to crochet it is almost impossible. Trying to reverse the pattern or graph sometimes works and sometimes not. So, when you are making your videos would it be possible to mention what a lefty might do or even point us in a direction (hopefully yours) of a video demonstrating the process left-handed?

For left handers, you may want to read the graph from the opposite side. So if Row 1 is on the right and listed on the right... Start Row 1 on the left. That might help.
